Simple origami for kids – how to make a paper fish

If you have ever wondered how to make a paper fish with your kids, then you will find this simple origami a great fun! We did this one just because it’s summer time! My daughter has been on holidays since a week and we just went to the beach for the first time this year. We did not see the fish in the water, unfortunately, there were too many waves to be able to spot one. But we did draw them on the sand and talked a lot about them. Hope next time we will be able to see them, perhaps on another beach…

Step1 I have used a ready-to-use paper sheet, as I did for the origami penguin and origami bird, but you can start with a blank piece of paper and let your kids draw on it first. You may want to help out and prepare a pattern, similar to the one I have used, so the folding is easier for kids. The grey lines are important as they indicate where the paper should be folded. First step, you fold the paper in two.

Step2 Bring one of the corners in the middle of the folded paper. Then, open this part and fold it into the middle, so you have two extreme corners outside.

Step3 Repeat it for the other side. You should end up with a triangle shape folded into inside.

Step4 Fold the extreme ends onto the rectangle fish shape. Cut off the middle part of the lower triangle – look at the lines to spot the shape.

Step5 Flip the fish over and it is ready! As easy as that. Enjoy!
