Banana gondola

By Gosia

Preparation time:   Servings: 1 Banana gondola dessert for kids

One day, my daughter got interested in a gondola, a souvenir we brought from Venice where we've been some years ago. She asked plenty of questions and wanted to know how people can live in such a 'city of water'. So we talked and talked, saw a lot of pictures and then we made this banana gondola for dessert. It made her day:)

  • 1 banana
  • 2 strawberries
  • 3 blueberries
  • 1 green grape
  • 1 chocolate biscuit stick
  • 3 toothpicks

Did you know that the gondola is asymmetric? The left side is larger than the right by about 24 cm. That makes the gondola inclined on one side and helps to resist the tendency to turn toward the left at the forward stroke.

Banana gondola step1 Step1

Cut off the bottom of the banana, so it holds on the plate. Cut a small bit in the middle of the banana to make a place for two strawberry fellows. Cut off the tip of each strawberry and the grape.

Banana gondola step2 Step2

Place the banana on the plate. Use the toothpick to connect the main part of the strawberry with the blueberry and the strawberry tip. This will make the fellow body, its head and the hat. Make two fellows like that and place them in the middle of the banana. Make a similar assembly for the grape and place the grape gondolier at the end of the banana. Make a small hole on a side of the grape and insert the chocolate biscuit stick there. Enjoy!

Warn the child before the consumption that there is a toothpick inside!
