Valentine’s Day dessert ideas – easy chocolate fondant cookies

January 17, 2014 by Gosia

Preparation time: 10min | Cooking time: 10-12min | Servings: 16

I think the recipe for these chocolate fondant cookies is the easiest cookie recipe I have ever tried! I got it from a friend a while ago and I have finally tried it to make these cute, heart shaped cookies, great for Valentine’s Day dessert or even a snack for kids. What can be better than chocolate on that day, right? :)

These cookies are not only easy to make, they are super fast to cook, so you can make a delicious, homemade dessert in less than 20min! To impress even more your dear Valentines, you can decorate the cookies with some heart shaped sprinkles or fruits. I can tell you, my daughter loved it! My husband too:)

Ingredients

  • 200 g of chocolate (I have used dark baking chocolate)
  • 100 g of butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 100 g of sugar
  • 100 g of flour
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • chocolate chips or chocolate candy to melt
  • hear shaped sprinkles and sugar pearls
  • 2 raspberries
  • natural yogurt or white chocolate chips/candy to melt

Supplies I used

Did you know that, according to legend, in order “to remind the men of their vows and God’s love, Saint Valentine is said to have cut hearts from parchment”, giving them to the soldiers and persecuted Christians, a possible origin of the widespread use of hearts on Saint Valentine’s Day.

Preparation

Step1 Preheat your oven 180C/360F. Mix eggs with sugar in a bowl. Melt the chocolate with butter, either in the microwave or in a double boiler.

Step2 Add flour and baking powder to the mixture from step1. Stir well and then add the melted chocolate. Stir gently until everything is well combined. Spoon the mixture to the cookie pan. Do not use an electric mixer for this step.
Cook for around 10min at 180C/360C. Do not overcook; check the cookies using a toothpick or a bamboo stick, you can remove them when the middle is still wet to keep them fondant in the middle. Depending on the mold you use, you may need to adapt the cooking time. The smaller the mold, the less you cook. For the mold I have used, 8 min is enough. Step3 Decorate your chocolate fondant cookies. I have melted a bit of dark chocolate and glazed some of the cookies with it. I have used hearts sprinkles and sugar pearls, a bit of yogurt for the white parts and raspberries. You can also use white chocolate instead of natural yogurt. If you use yogurt, you must eat the cookies almost immediately, it will not preserve well. But actually this is a great idea to sneak a bit of it for a kids-friendly Valentine dessert or snack:) Enjoy!St Valentine's Day dessert ideas - easy chocolate fondant cookies step3aSt Valentine's Day dessert ideas - easy chocolate fondant cookies step3b
