Winter can be very long and when you think that it is almost over, another snow storm is arriving… My daughter told me yesterday she was tired of wearing her snow pants and boots and couldn’t wait for spring to come. She said she liked winter and snow but that it was too long for her. Poor little girl.. In order to cheer her up and make her feel that spring is around the corner, I made her a nice, joyful and healthy meal: two little birds in their nest under a flowering tree. The smile came back on her face when she saw it and she started to make plans for the spring holidays!
Ingredients
- 1-2 yellow cauliflower florets
- dried-tomato and basil pasta
- 1 veal escallop
- parsley
- 1 black olive
- 1 slice of yellow cheese ( I have used Kraft Cracker Barrel Cheddar Sliced Cheese)
- 1 slice of orange cheese
- 1 tablespoon of grated cheese
- dark brown gravy
- salt, paper, oil
Preparation
Step1
Cook the cauliflower in salted water until tender. Cook the pasta following instructions on the package you bought, adjust the quantity to your needs. Prepare the gravy sauce following the instructions on the package you bought. Fry the meat in a pan for a few minutes on each side until well cooked and then add the gravy, in order for the meat to get a nice brown color. Meanwhile, while everything cooks, cut some flower shapes from the orange cheese using a cookie cutter or a knife. Cut small dots from the yellow cheese using a straw and then place them onto each flower. Cut two small dots from the black olive to be used as birds’ eyes.
Step2 When the cauliflower is cooked, mix it with the grated cheese. Cut the meet into different size stripes and place them on a plate to shape a tree. Place the flowers made from cheese and some parsley to make a nice, spring flowering tree. Turn and twist the pasta with a fork to make a nest at the bottom of the tree. Use a spoon and your hands to make small bird shapes from the cauliflower & cheese mixture. Make bird’s eyes from the black olive dots. Enjoy!
