Little house

May 8, 2013 by Gosia

Preparation time: 15min   |  Cooking time: 15min   |   Servings: 1

My daughter likes to build houses and castles from Lego and wooden building blocks. To celebrate her latest constructions I made her a house for dinner:) She loved the idea and participated in the decoration -she placed the broccoli for the tree and cheese for the curtains. Everything disappeared quickly from her plate!

Ingredients

  • 1 beef steak
  • 5-6 cherry tomatoes
  • grains of canned corn
  • 1-2 tablespoons of rice
  • 2-3 broccoli florets
  • 1 slice of cheese
  • 1 tablespoon of oil
  • 1 teaspoon of mustard
  • salt, paper

Did you know that Lego bricks from 1958 (the year when the modern Lego brick was patented) still interlock with those made nowadays and that Lego sets for young children are compatible with those made for teenagers?

Preparation

Little house step1 Step1

Prepare the beef: in a bowl, mix the mustard with oil, salt and paper. Add the beef and coat well with the mixture. Cover and leave it for a while. Cook the broccoli and rice in the salted water usually for about 10-15 min, until tender. Follow the instruction on the rice package you bought.

When the veggies and rice are almost done, fry the beef in a frying pan for few min on each side, adjust the time depending on how well you want it done.

Little house step2 Step2

While the veggies and the rice cooks, prepare the sun and the house roof. For the sun, just place the grains of the canned corn on the plate in a shape of the sun. For the roof: cut the cherry tomatoes in half and then, the remaining part in half again. Place them on the plate in three rows, as shown on the picture.

Little house step3 Step3

Place the rice on the plate to make the house front wall. Cut the beef into 5 parts: 1 big part for the tree trunk, 1 rectangle part for the house door, 2 small squares for the windows and 1 small rectangle for the chimney. Place them all in the plate as shown on the picture. Place the big broccoli floret as the upper branches of a tree and the smallest broccoli florets as small bushes near the tree and the house. Cut two squeres of cheese in the same shape as the windows. Cut a rounded triangle shape  off these cheese squares to make curtain s. Cut a small piece of cheese to make a door handle. Enjoy!
