Raclette – easy party food for cheese lovers

Raclette is one of my favorite winter easy party food. My daughter loves it too, so I wanted to share it with you, in case you don’t know it and if you are looking for simple and great food for both adults and kids.

Raclette is very popular in Europe, but many of my Canadian friends never heard about it, so I guess it is less common here, in North America. If you like cheese and you don’t want to spend hours cooking to prepare party meals, then you will love it! Preparation time is really minimal, it is simple and easy and you can spend your time enjoying eating and chatting with friends or family at the table. Another advantage of raclette is that kids love it too! So if you have kids at your party, you don’t need to bother preparing a separate spaghetti dish or pizza, they will love a plate of potatoes with melted cheese!

Raclette grill has usually 8 to 12 nonstick pans, so depending of the number of guest you have, each person can have its own or they can share it. You put slices of raclette cheese there and then you place them underneath the broiler on the raclette pan. The melted cheese is served over boiled potatoes and sliced cold meats, charcuterie. Salad and vegetables are usually served on the side. This is a very simple and humble meal, and very filling, so don’t eat too much before that day:)

Give it a try if you haven’t had it yet and I am sure you will love it. And your kids will love it too!Raclette - easy party food for cheese lovers

Ingredients

  • raclette cheese (if you buy it pre-packaged the number of servings is marked on the package)
  • ham, sausages, meats, poultry – any ham or meat you like
  • salad, vegetables – as you like
  • potatoes (usually 1-3 per person, depends how much you can eat!)

Supplies I used

Did you know that raclette is both a type of cheese and a Swiss dish based on heating the cheese and scraping off (racler) the melted part?

Preparation

Step1 Prepare everything beforehand. You need to cook whole potatoes, prepare a plate of raclette cheese, a plate of ham (and all other smoked meat or sausages you like) and a salad or a plate of veggies. I usually make a very simple salad with just a bit of oil and vinaigrette. You can make any salad you want or even use the upper plate of raclette dish to grill some veggies.Raclette - easy party food for cheese lovers step1a Raclette - easy party food for cheese lovers step1b Raclette - easy party food for cheese lovers step1c Raclette - easy party food for cheese lovers step1d

Step2 Set your party table with the raclette grill as a central piece:) You can use the upper part of the raclette grill to keep the potatoes warm. Put the slices of cheese on the raclette pans to melt them. When the cheese is ready, pour it onto the potatoes and ham. Enjoy!
