Tortilla flower

Preparation time: 10min   |  Servings: 1 Tortilla flower snack for kids

My daughter made a beautiful flower pot at school as a gift for me on mother’s day. It was so cute, covered with colored papers, flowers, sequins and ribbon s. Made me so happy! There was a little flower grain planted inside and I was supposed to have a flower-surprise one day, when it would grow. As we talked a lot about flowers that day, I made her a flower snack to go along with the flower theme. She liked it a lot!

Ingredients

  • 1 small tortilla
  • 1 slice of cucumber
  • 1 slice of ham
  • creamy cheese (e.g. Philadelphia)
  • 1 slice of avocado
  • 1-2 radish
  • salad leaf
  • few grains of canned corn

Did you know that flowers are so colorful and fragrant only to attract the pollinating insects? Some flowers have patterns showing pollinators where to look for nectar; they may be visible only under ultraviolet light, which is seen by bees and some other insects.

Preparation

Take one small tortilla or a half of a bigger one. Spread a thin layer of the creamy cheese on it, then place a slice of cucumber and ham in the middle. Roll it up to make a wrap.

Place the cut pieces of the wrap on the plate to make the flower petals. Put few grains of the canned corn in the middle of the petals. Cut the slices of the radish from the outside part and place them on the wraps, as shown on the picture. Cut avocado slice to make the flower stem and put it on the plate, inside two flower petals. Cut two avocado slices to make the flower leaves and place them on each side of the stem. Put some salad leaves around the stem. Enjoy!
