Hot air balloon snack

September 3, 2013 by Gosia

Preparation time: 10min | Servings: 1

Would you like to jump into a hot air balloon? Yeah :) Who would love an exciting, amazing balloon ride? Have you ever done it? No? Neither do I, but I would love to. If you did, I would love to hear your experience – please leave me a comment. Hot air balloon snack for kids This weekend I had at least a chance to admire gorgeous hot air balloons at the Hot Air Balloon Festival in Gatineau. It is one of the most important hot air balloon gathering in Canada, and the fifth largest in the world. If the weather is fine, there are 2 balloons flights per day, one in the morning, one in the evening. The shapes and colors of balloons are just amazing, here are some pictures I took:

Hot air balloon festival GatineauNo wonder that after such a great and spectacular afternoon, we kept talking about balloons:) So I said to my daughter, that we may try to make a balloon for a snack. I opened the fridge and had and idea: why not make it easy and simple? I took some hummus and shaped a balloon. I cut some stripes of pepper and let my daughter decorate it. We made a wicker basket from a biscuit and 2 clouds from cheese using our cookie cutter. Our balloon was ready! My daughter was delighted:)

Ingredients

  • 1-2 tablespoons of hummus
  • slices of pepper: yellow, orange and red
  • 1 biscuit
  • 1 biscuit stick
  • 1 slice of cheese (I used Babybel)

Supplies I used

Did you know that standard hot air balloons are known as Montgolfier balloons and rely solely on the buoyancy of hot air provided by the burner and contained by the envelope? This style of balloon was developed by the Montgolfier brothers, and had its first public demonstration on 4 June 1783 with an unmanned flight lasting 10 minutes, followed later that year with manned flights.

Preparation

Step1 Place hummus on the plate with a spoon, shaping a balloon. Cut thin slices of pepper and decorate the balloon, as shown on the picture. Cut a biscuit stick in 3 parts and use it to connect the balloon upper part to the basket, made of a biscuit. Use a cookie cutter to cut cloudy shapes from cheese.
