My Little Pony birthday cake

June 5, 2014 by Gosia

Preparation time: 30min | Servings: 12

I have promised you last week that I would share my homemade My Little Pony birthday cake that I did for my daughter’s birthday and here it comes! My Little Pony birthday cake

Here I will only show you how to make My Little Pony decorations for the cake, for the actual cake recipe, click here.

I have used a small ‘trick’ to reproduce Applejack, Pinkie Pie and Twilight Sparkle as my daughter likes them the most. It was the first time I was making cake decorations with sugar paste icing, but it turned out not so bad :) It was maybe not perfect, but I was quite proud with the result and my daughter loved it, which was the most important!

Ingredients

  • sugar paste icing of different colors
  • silver sugar pearls

Preparation

Step1 I have used an image from a plastic bag to make each of the ponies. With a knife, I have made marks that were visible on the sugar paste icing once the bag was removed. Then, I just cut the sugar paste following the lines that I have made. It was really easy to get the correct shape of the pony. I was not brave enough to make it myself from scratch…My Little Pony birthday cake - how to make a pony1 My Little Pony birthday cake - how to make a pony2

Step2 Once the pony was shaped, I have made the eyes. First, you need to make a small white ball with sugar paste icing and place it where the eyes should be; you press it. Then, you make another ball, smaller, using the color of the pony’s eyes and you place it on the white one; you press it. Then, you finish by the black one, on which you add two tiny white ball; you press it. At the end, you use a tiny bits to make the eyelashes.  My Little Pony birthday cake - Pinkie Pie My Little Pony birthday cake - Twilight Sparkle My Little Pony birthday cake - Applejack

Step3 To decorate the cake even more, I have used two flower cookie cutters to make some colorful flowers out of the sugar paste icing. I have put a silver sugar pearl in each of them. I have also made a colorful decoration all around the cake, using a special sugar paste icing cutter. Step4 I have made the cake and all the decorations the day before my daughter’s birthday party and I placed it in the fridge. All looked great the next day. Enjoy! My Little Pony birthday cake
