Homemade ABC tomato soup for kids

March 29, 2014 by Gosia

Preparation time: 15min | Cooking time: 20min | Servings: 4-5

One of my daughter’s favorite soup is homemade tomato soup that I always make from fresh tomatoes. This time, I have added some funny cheesy letters to her soup bowl and made it with ABC alphabet pasta. She had a lot of fun fishing all the letters with her spoon:)

If you want to sneak some veggies to your kids menu, try this really simple and yummy recipe. If you want to try out different soups we have made before, check out our red-velvet beetroot soup , squash soup (with sweet potatoes chips), almond soup or cream of asparagus.

Ingredients

  •  3-4 tomatoes
  • 1 carrot
  • 1/2 of parsley root
  • 1 slice of celery root
  • 1 tablespoon of sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon of flour
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • salt, paper
  • 1 vegetable cube
  • 1-2 slices of cheese
  • ABC pasta (around 2-3 tablespoons per bowl of soup)

Preparation

Step1 Peel tomatoes and other vegetables. Cut them into slices or cubes. Put everything in a soup pot, add spices, oil and the vegetable cube. Cook all the veggies until all are tender. Pour a bit of a soup liquid into a bowl or a cup. Add sour cream and flour and mix everything together to make a creamy mixture. Pour this mixture back into the soup and stir well; cook for 1-2 minutes. Mix everything with a blender.Homemade ABC tomato soup for kids step1
Step2 While the soup cooks, cook also the ABC alphabet pasta. I usually use 2-3 tablespoons of pasta per a bowl of soup, although my daughter could eat even more! She loves it so much:)Homemade ABC tomato soup for kids step2

Step3 Cut ABC letters from the cheese. I have used the ABC letters cookie cutters, if you don’t have them, you can try to cut the letters with your knife. You may also try different letters, just for fun:) Homemade ABC tomato soup for kids step3
Step4 Serve ABC alphabet pasta in a bowl and pour the soup. Place the ABC letters cut from cheese on the surface of the soup. Ask you kids to find all the letters of the alphabet in the soup. That’s a great fun!:) Enjoy! Homemade ABC tomato soup for kids step4
